DEVELOPING CONTENTOverview: Developing good content is one of the most important steps in creating your own online income stream, and possibly the most overlooked. When a user comes to your website, why are they there? Is it to read ads, buy products, or click affiliate links? Probably not. People come to your website for information and helpful services. If they come to your website and all they find is general information that they could get anywhere else why should they stay? So the first thing you do before even building your website is create unique helpful content. Plan your website. Decide what pages your site will include and what information you want on each of them. Keep your site focused and don’t try to do everything. One of the major pitfalls that new online entrepreneurs run into is trying to create a website that caters to everyone. You don’t need to be the next Google or the next eBay just to be successful. Make sure that your content is to the point and not surrounded by sales pitch or fluff. When it all comes down to it your content needs three things. It has to be focused, helpful, and unique. If the information you provide gives a solution to a specific problem and that solution is one that the viewer has not previously come across they will stay, and more importantly they will return. Lastly, update your content. This is just as important if not more important than creating good content in the first place. If a viewer returns two or three times and everything appears the same they will likely stop coming back. If you want to retain your viewers update your content.
It is important to keep in mind that content is not just for websites. When driving traffic, getting backlinks, or practicing article marketing you will need articles. What I like to do is use Rapid Writer, a tool provided by Wealthy Affiliate that allows you to write one article, and spin it into multiple versions. Why would you want to do that? Well article submission sites do not like you to submit duplicate content. Rapid Writer allows you to create many versions of one article saving you valuable time, and in some cases money if you would rather pay others to write articles for you. You can use those articles for your website, or individually. We will discuss article marketing in more detail later in this guide. Also keep in mind that Rapid Writer is not a must have tool but it is one of those tools that separates the beginners from the pros, and saves huge amounts of time.
